As part of their Intelligenzaktion, the operation to eliminate intellectuals, the German Socialist Gestapo arrested Fransciscan Brother Jan "Brunon" Zembol, on September 19, 1939.
Shipped to Sachsenhausen then Dachau death camp, Brother Brunon perished from starvation, exhaustion and exposure, on August 24, 1942. Cremated by the Socialists, his ashes were scattered in nearby fields.
