"Goodbye until Heaven," said Father Józef Jankowski to those near him, when he was arrested and dragged away by the Gestapo, on May 16, 1941.
Transported to Auschwitz extermination camp, on May 28, he received number 16895.
Starved, beaten and worked to death, he died on October 16, 1941. His body was burned unceremoniously in the camp's crematorium.
