10/31/2018 0 Comments October 31st, 2018  In retaliation for the assassination of Schutzstaffel General Franz Kutschera, the German Socialist Gestapo rounded up 17 priests, 14 monks, orphanage staff and orphans, in Warsaw.
One of the priests was Father Józef Florko, imprisoned in Pawiak prison, Groß-Rosen and Mittelbau-Dora concentration camps, then Bergen-Belsen, where he died, on February 25, 1945, during the camp's evacuation. After making his first relgious vows earlier than planned, on May 19, he was arrested days later, on May 22, 1940.
Shipped to Poznań, then Dachau death camp and, finally, Mauthausen-Gusen, Father Wojtkowiak was thrown from his bunk by a German kapo and froze to death, on December 25, 1940. "Goodness and being are really the same, and differ only in idea." -- Saint Thomas Aquinas (1225-74) 10/28/2018 0 Comments October 28th, 2018 Arrested by the Gestapo, on November 10, 1939 -- two months after the German Socialists began World War II with the invasion of Poland -- Brother Jan Zając was shipped to Montelupich prison, then Wiśnicz, Auschwitz and, finally, Dachau, on December 12, 1940, where he survived until he succumbed to starvation, exhaustion and exposure, on February 12, 1945, only a few months before the camp was liberated by the Americans, on April 29, 1945.

Jesus," sighed Father Jan Świerc, as he was tortured to death because he was a Catholic priest. Kicked, whipped, smashed in the eye with a stone, and spine crushed by "Bloody Franz," a kapo in Auschwitz, the Salesian priest perished on June 27, 1941, while working in the death camp's gravel pit one day after his arrival.

But before he was arrested, he was able to report to Pope Pius XII of the invaders' evil: "Many priests are imprisoned, suffering humiliations, blows, maltreatment. A certain number were deported to Germany... Others have been detained in concentration camps...It is not rare to see a priest in the midst of labor gangs working in the fields...Some of them have even been shut up for the night in pigsties, barbarously beaten and subjected to other tortures...Hitlerism aims at the systematic and total destruction of the Catholic Church in the rich and fertile territories of Poland which have been incorporated into the Reich...It is known for certain that 35 priests have been shot, but the real number of victims...undoubtedly amounts to more than a hundred... In many districts the life of the Church has been completely crushed, the clergy have been almost all expelled; the Catholic churches and cemeteries are in the hands of the invaders...Catholic worship hardly exists any more...Monasteries and convents have been methodically suppressed...all have been pillaged by the invaders." Niech żyje Chrystus Król! 10/21/2018 0 Comments October 21st, 2018  Already on a blacklist for refusing to sign the racial-defining Volkslista, Father Jan Chryzostom Michałkowski appeared at a local office of the German Socialist Gestapo to plead for the release of an underground catechist.
Arrested on the spot, Father Michałkowski was tortured and shipped to Auschwitz, Buchenwald and then its sub-camp Mittelbau-Dora, where he perished from starvation, exposure and exhaustion, on December 26, 1943.
