In retaliation for the execution of German informants by Polish guerilla, Father Józef Benedykt Konstanty Kownacki was arrested by German Socialist Gestapo, transported to a prison in Radom, tortured until he could not stand, shipped to Puławska Mountain and hanged publicly with 19 local villagers, October 29, 1942.
