During the operation to eliminate the Polish Catholic intellectuals, the German Socialist Gestapo arrested 9 professors and 22 seminarians of the Theological Seminary in Włocławek, on November 7, 1939, two months after Hitler's death-troops stormed into Poland.
Seminarian Bronisław Kostkowski was one of the arrested. Jailed in Włocławek prison, then Szczeglin transit camp, Sachsenhausen concentration camp and, finally, Dachau death camp, he perished from starvation, exhaustion and exposure, on September 27, 1942.
