In the first weeks of the German Socialist invasion of Poland,
Father Paweł Kirstein, a Doctor of Sacred Theology, was summoned by Gestapo, who arrested him with 18 Pelplin canons, as part of the Intelligenzaktion, the operation to liquidate Polish Catholic intellectuals. Transported to Tczew, they were tortured and 16 were executed in the dark of night in a military barracks, on October 30, 1939.
