After the German Socialists invaded Poland on September 1, 1939, they issued an order that mandated the registration of all Poles.
Father Stanisław Wiorek, accompanied by Father Piotr Szarek, was on his way to register, when the two were rounded up by Gestapo, detained in Bydgoszcz's historic Old Market Square, and executed, on September 9, 1939, with dozens others.
