Fleeing from advancing Socialist Soviet soldiers, Father Engelbert Rahmel and the last of his parishioners headed west but were soon captured by the Reds, who forced them into a house with other refugees, men in one room, women in another. After nightfall, when the soldiers strong-armed their way into the women's room to rape them, Father Rahmel was murdered trying to save the women, February 27, 1945.
