When the German Socialists invaded Poland, all higher education was banned, schools were closed and students were ordered to report to the Arbeit Amt, the Work Office, or else be arrested.
Polish Catholic teenager Zofia Posmysz was assigned a waitress job, but in her spare time, she attended secret classes, organized by the Polish underground.
After someone reported the classes to the invaders, Gestapos arrested Zofia and three underground classmates.
For six weeks she endured interrogations and torture, after which she was shipped to Auschwitz and other camps and was freed on May 2, 1945.
