Arrested by German Socialist Gestapo, Father Antoni Gomółka was shipped to a transit prison camp, in Zamość. Deliberately infected with typhoid, he was transferred to the infirmary, where he had the opportunity to escape, but refused because he feared that he would endanger the man, a husband and father, guarding him. The next day, September 15, 1941, he was dragged from his hospital bed and shot.
