At some point he had felt death approaching and signaled that he wanted to make his last confession. In a narrow bend along the path, Father Sebastianus Pien, carrying the right front corner of the litter, nodded for others to delay on a turn. There, he bent over, listened to the dying man’s final words and pronounced absolution over the victim of Chinese Communists with their theophobic Socialist ideology of death and destruction.
