German Socialist Gestapo, the invaders of Poland, arrested Father Józef Słupina and several of his Lazarist confreres from the Krakow monastery.
Imprisoned in Montelupich, Father Słupina was interrogated, tortured and shipped to Auschwitz death camp. On the day of his arrival, August 30, 1940, because he wore a cassock and held a rosary, he was brutally kicked to death by a Schutzstaffel guard.
