For his request, Gestapo arrested Father Maciej "Alojzy" Poprawa, of the Congregation of the Camaldolese Hermits of the Crown Mountain. Shipped to Dachau death camp, he fell ill from starvation, exhaustion, exposure and torture. Carried to the hospital barracks, he was given a fatal injection and perished, on August 13, 1942.
